Celebrity chef Rocco DiSpirito has written a number of books and cookbooks showing people how to fix comfort foods that are lower in calories, sugar and fat. His latest book is Now Eat This! 100 Quick Calorie Cuts at Home. He is also the author of Now Eat This! Diet: Lose Up to 10 Pounds in Just 2 Weeks Eating 6 Meals a Day! He has made numerous television appearances, notably as a guest chef on NBC’s reality TV weight loss competition show The Biggest Loser.
In support of his new book he made an appearance on ABC’s Good Morning America on Tues. Sept. 27, 2011 and discussed some ways to cut calories without sacrificing taste. Watch the full video above.
There are a couple of Rocco DiSpirito’s reduced calorie recipes at ABCNews.com demonstrating just how delicious comfort foods can be. Check out the sweet potato fries recipe. As it is oven baked, it reduces the total calories significantly of this popular dieter’s complex carbohydrate. Sweet potatoes are rich in beta carotene, antioxidants and phytochemicals. See also his garlic mashed potatoes recipe, which has reduced calories. Potatoes are a nutritious food, full of fiber and nutrients including vitamin C, vitamin B6 and potassium. A russet potato has only 110 calories. But because they are too often are served drenched in fats and oils they have become unfairly maligned and not seen as a healthy food for weight loss.
