Mel B, Jenny Craig Spokesperson: Weight Loss After Pregnancy

Former Spice Girl Mel B (a.k.a. Melanie Brown), currently a judge on The X Factor is the latest celebrity spokesperson for Jenny Craig in Australia and New Zealand. She gave birth to a baby girl, Madison, in early September 2011 and said that she wants to lose the baby weight. As reports the Sydney Daily Telegraph reports, she said she has been exercising but needs “a little push to help me started eating sensibly.” She went on to say: “I really allowed myself the chance to pig out during this pregnancy, so I’ve got a bit of weight to lose.”

Her current weight post-pregnancy is now 165 pounds (75kg) and her goal is to lose 15kg 33 pounds (15kg) to reach her goal weight of 132 pounds (60kg) by the New Year. Click here for current photos and a 2010 picture for comparison.

In a statement, Amy Smith, Managing Director of Jenny Craig Australia/New Zealand, described the eating plan for weight loss Mel B will use. It has been devised by the companies doctors and nutritionists to meet the nutritional needs of breastfeeding women who have recently given birth. It will include healthy meals and snacks and an abundance of vegetables and fruit.

U.S. News & World Report’s recent survey of diet plans ranked Jenny Craig as the No. 2 weight loss diet, behind Weight Watchers which it ranked at No. 1. It drew kudos for the one-on-one counseling available to participants. It addresses hunger and appetite concerns by using the principles of the Volumetrics diet, with foods high in fiber and water content, but low in calories and fat. These are satisfying healthy weight loss foods that are low in calorie density. Drawbacks of the diet include the high sodium content of the meals, around 2,000 to 4,000 milligrams per day.
