Today Show contributors, Jill Martin of US Weekly and nutritionist Joy Bauer, discussed the celebrity diet and weight loss secrets (video above) of a few of the women — Mariah Carey, Kate Middleton, Pippa Middleton and Kim Kardashian — about whom many are most curious. The segment was broadcast on Weds. January 4, 2011. While we have all heard about various fad diets coming out of Hollywood, in contrast, these are sensible and healthy tips worth passing on.

Mariah Carey

Mariah Carey has lost 70 pounds since the birth of her twins in April 2011. She lost the 40 first while breastfeeding and shedding water weight. Because she had had a c-section she was restricted in working out. She used the Jenny Craig program to lose the remaining 30 pounds. She is now a spokesperson for the company. Joy Bauer notes that the program, which uses prepared foods, has different caloric range and that Mariah Carey had picked the 1,200 to 1,500 calorie range. Advantages? Similarly dieters can pick an appropriate caloric level and it’s simple, not requiring cooking or food preparation. Low calorie treats are also included in the daily menu to help dieters to not feel deprived.


Kate Middleton

Kate Middleton, the Dutchess of Cambridge, does not have a personal trainer but works out at a gym, Joy Bauer notes. When in Wales, she is outside all the time and hikes and uses small weights. Neither she nor Prince William weigh themselves. Despite rumors and tabloid reports to the contrary she is not on the Dukan diet. She eats lots of oatmeal and also eats lots of fruit, and snacks on almonds.

Pippa Middleton. The “hot sister” with the “hot backside” works out a lot, according to Jill Martin. She completed a triathlon in June and then two weeks later did a cross race, a 20 mile foot race and a 30 mile bike ride. She also does Pilates. As for her diet, she is said to eat a lot of fish.

Kim Kardashian. She works out with a celebrity trainer twice a week for an hour at a time to focus on muscle groups. She has gotten rid of sugar in the diet and increased protein.
