LaRhonda Darby GMA Interview (Video) Extreme Makeover: Weight Loss Edition

LaRhonda Darby of Oklahoma City, OK was one of the participants in the ABC reality TV series Extreme Makeover: Weight Loss Edition. The program chronicled her weight loss journey under the guidance of trainer Chris Powell from 433 pounds to 231 pounds, for a total weight loss of 202 pounds just one year.

She made an appearance on ABC’s Good Morning America (video above) on Mon. July 11, 2011 and took part in an interview with Lara Spencer. LaRhonda Darby said of her weight loss efforts, “It wasn’t for the weak; I gave all credit to God. It was really really rough but my God is stronger. I’m grateful.”

“I’m in a good place right now. I want to do another triathlon. I want to travel the world. Planes and stairs are not an issue. I want to do things I always wanted to do.”

Asked what it was like to see the video clips from the show documenting her weight loss as well as the struggles in her daily life when she weighed more than 400 pounds, she acknowledged it was difficult to watch. “Yes, but it’s not about me. It’s hard to see it but it’s about helping someone else. if it’s going to help anybody so something better then so better.”

While her motivation to lose weight with a rigorous diet and exercise routine was the untimely death of her mother due to diabetes, she stressed that everyone must make a choice. “Okay, enough is enough. How bad do you want it to be? We all have a choice.”

Asked if she had achieved her goal, she said, “I don’t have a goal weight. I have a goal life. I don’t hang myself on a number. I want to inspire others.”
