Jay Wornick of Fulton, New York has made headlines for the 200 pound weight loss he achieved in just 10 months, winning a bet with his wife who challenged him on January 1, 2011. Topping the scales at 366 pounds, he is now lean and fit thanks to a healthy diet — ditching the fast food, soft drinks and processed foods that had his daily calorie totals ranging from an estimated 7,000 to 10,000 — and exercise. The story of Jay Wornick, first reported a local newspaper, The Syracuse Post-Standard, has received international attention.
On Good Morning America on November 10, 2011 (video part 1 above; part 2 below) in an interview with ABC’s Robin Roberts — alongside his wife, Angela Wornick, and the couple’s three children — Jay Wornick, talked about his remarkable and inspiring weight loss journey of losing 200 pounds. He said he had never known what it was like not to be an overweight person and that he had been overweight since he was five years old, and called Pugsley (the Addams Family character) because of his size. Regarding his starting point — 366 pounds — he said it was about the heaviest he had been, and that he was in the worst shape of his life. Describing his diet of fast foods and numerous cans of soda, he said, “I topped 10,000 calories, no problem. No problem at all.”
Part 2 Interview. (Background story is in the video above.)
As for what the impetus was to make the change after his wife challenged him at the beginning of the year, he said, “I turned 30 at the end of last year. Something just clicked. Let’s do it. Let’s try it. I never really tried. Let’s tick to it. Let’s lead by example. I want to walk my daughter down the aisle. It wasn’t looking like I would be there in 20 years. I’m going to keep it off and do what I can to stay healthy.
He lost the 200 pounds all on his own, “No nutritionist, no surgery, no personal trainer. That stuff is not necessary if you put in the work.” He lost the weight, he said, by cutting out the soda, fast food and processed foods, and replacing them with healthy, high fiber foods — vegetables, fruits along with lean cuts of meat — turkey, chicken. “I changed everything,” he said. He said that he exercised two hours a day six days a week. “I just didn’t cheat,” he said.
Sharing some weight loss tips he noted that a high fiber diet is important. Breakfast is the biggest meal and the meals get smaller throughout the day for him.
He also credited the support of his wife and children, saying, “This is the best family a guy could ask for.” Click here for before and after pictures. Watch the full GMA replay video above and let us know what you think of Jay Wornick’s amazing weight loss transformation!
