Harley Pasternak: Tips for New Year’s Weight Loss Resolutions!

A New Year and a new chance to resolve…yes, this is the year that I lose weight, get fit, stick to the diet, make a major lifestyle change and make it permanent! Whatever your specific goal — and being a specific as you can, is important — there’s probably more “tips” and words of “advice” out there than you might even want. Resolution fever has set in for 2013 in these opening days.


Looking around to see who has to say what, I found Harley Pasternak’s words very inspirational, and I’m happy to pass along what he has just recently blogged for the New Year. Check out what the famed celebrity fitness trainer and author of the The 5-Factor Diet has to say about sticking to the New Year’s Resolutions and not joining the 20 percent whom he says give up after just the first month! Well, that won’t do, especially as he’s got a book that doesn’t even get published till March 2013, entitled The Body Reset Diet: Power Your Metabolism, Blast Fat, and Shed Pounds in Just 15 Days. Golly, gosh, hopefully we can make it at least three months — or perhaps have reached our goal by then and sending our new pics to all our friends!

So in the meantime, here’s what Pasternak has to say.

1. Believe In Yourself
This one is a biggie for me. If you start out on your mission expecting to fail, you will. Give yourself some credit and tell yourself, “I can do this. I will do this.” I believe in you if you can believe in you!

2. Create a Routine
You’re more likely to be successful if you plan ahead and set specific goals for yourself. At the start of every week, look at your schedule and carve out 25 minutes a day, five days a week, and dedicate that time to a resistance routine. That way, you’re not thrown off of your plan by anything (work, family, traffic) life throws at you. Planning ahead goes for your diet, too. Pick a shopping day(s) each week and set an alarm on your phone to stay consistent with meal and snack times.

As always this year, there is no shortage of articles, videos, infographics and tips on how to keep your resolutions — and in particular the most popular, to lose weight — and it’s helpful as a New Year begins that that is much discussion in media and perhaps among your circle of friends and family.

Still what is needed — and I know from experience — is your own very specific, unswerving motivation to make a change. It might have been a health scare, it might be a desire to get out of the fat pants and into the skinny jeans. Whatever it is, write it down, and put it somewhere that you’ll see it — yes, perhaps right by the fridge, which, helpfully should be cleared of the tempting foods, along with the pantry and the kitchen shelves!
