Drew Manning, Fit2Fat2Fit Trainer Reveals Weight Loss (Video): GMA Interview

Drew Manning, the Fit2Fat2Fit trainer made an appearance live in the studio on Good Morning America on Mon. June 4, 2012; video is below. With his wife, Lynn, alongside him, he was interviewed by co-anchor George Stephanopoulos in what was his first public appearance in several months. He embarked on a mission in May 2011 to spend six months gaining weight followed by six months to lose it again — both to learn and empathize with those who struggle to lose weight, and to inspire and motivate.

Now he is back in the spotlight, with a new physique and a book chronicling his journey, Fit2Fat2Fit: The Unexpected Lessons from Gaining and Losing 75 lbs on Purpose.

While he had shared several weeks of his weight loss journey with video and pictures through his official Web site Fit2Fat2Fit and Facebook fan page and developed an enormous community of people following the diet and exercise routine, he had not posted pictures or video of himself prior to today’s big reveal. Here are the before and after weight gain pictures from last year.

On GMA, his story was encapsulated; last year he gained 21 pounds in just the first month of the standard American diet of processed foods, soda and juice. (In previous interviews, he said he had eaten such foods as Cinnamon Toast Crunch cereal, granola bars, cookies, chips, white bread peanut butter sandwiches, macaroni and cheese or hot pockets. cereals, macaroni, and washing it down with Mountain Dew soda.) From following his blog we also learned he was developing some of the negative health consequences of obesity including high blood pressure and the beginnings of fatty liver disease.

As you will see, he strolled out looking very much like he has restored his “before” physique although in the brief interview he did not say what his current weight is nor how much he lost. He looks far different from the after weight gain photo. In a Nightline interview with JuJu Chang to air on Mon. June 4, 2012 he will go into more detail on his journey.

In the brief interview, he talked about how difficult it was to get started in gaining weight and stopping his fitness routine, as, in his words he was “addicted to working out.” After gaining more than 70 pounds he said that for the first time going to the gym he was “nervous and humbled” as he performed assisted pull-ups and push-ups from the knees.

His wife, Lynn, shared some of the experience from her perspective; she said she was shocked at the personality changes and it was hard on their marriage. As he gained weight he went through emotional changes, became lazy and did not help out as much around the house.

Drew Manning conceded, “I was in denial at first until she pointed out what I was doing.”
