Dressing for Weight Loss at Any Size: Wardrobe Tips (Video)


Have you had the dilemma of not knowing how to dress if you have lost some weight, or if you have gained a bit? While we may have the dream of fitting into the high school prom dress, the skinny jeans, the bikini, or whatever ideal there might be, weight loss is, if nothing else, a test of patience and focus. Sometimes it’s just easy to want to retreat and not face the prospect of clothes shopping, especially as clothing sizes vary so widely among brands and labels. Whether it’s the size that we wear or some aspect of our bodies that we are dissatisfied with, we know that getting dressed can be emotionally challenging.

I happened to catch this segment on the Today Show on March 16, 2012 (video above) on its fourth hour segment with co-anchors Kathie Lee Gifford and Hoda Kotb as they spoke with celebrity stylist Amy Acton, who, with some “real women” models, demonstrated a few figure flattering styles and basic concepts to help other women in the real world as they face the challenge of finding a suitable wardrobe.

Among the models was a woman who blogs from home and lost 100 pounds…a victory! Acton noted that she was still dressing as if she had not lost the weight, and showed ways to dress comfortable for work at home, and yet not be stuck in sweats. Another woman had given birth five months ago, and needed a transitional wardrobe.

She was also able to help a woman with what she terms “the most challenging body type, broad in the shoulders and full in the middle” to dress well for her body type.
