Trainer and transformation specialist Chris Powell has drawn much attention and interest due to the new reality TV show on ABC, Extreme Makeover: Weight Loss Edition. It chronicles his year-long work with 8 super obese participants (BMI more than 50 and at least 200 pounds to lose) who lose remarkable amounts of weight while confronting their emotional challenges. The premiere episode featured Rachel Oliver who achieved a 161 pound weight loss in a year.
UPDATE: Chris Powell’s newly published book, Choose to Lose: The 7-Day Carb Cycle Solution is now available everywhere including Amazon.com and other online retailers, and stores.

There’s been a huge amount of interest in the diet plan. With some searching I was glad to find some videos on YouTube in which he walks us through the diet, dubbed The Carb Cycle Solution. It is the same plan that David Smith used to great success to lose more than 400 pounds as seen on 650 Lb. Virgin, on TLC.
It is a three-phase program. Once you have gotten the junk out of the diet — refined carbohydrates, sugar, processed foods, etc. you now focus on consuming the right quantities of healthy foods to lose weight based on your caloric needs. By making adjustments in the type of carbohydrates — starchy versus non-starchy — as well as the amount of carbohydrates, along with the amount of healthy fats, the dieter can overcome the body’s tendency to adapt to a diet which causes the dreaded weight loss plateau.
Check out all three videos below, which explain each phase and the rationale behind it. Carb cycling has been used for many years in bodybuilding and fitness circles and discussed in detail at many forums for bodybuilders and fitness pros. I know from personal experience it works extremely well, especially when you either have reached a plateau and/or you are trying to lose those last five or 10 pounds.
